Freddy the Fly: An animated video promoting sanitation and hygiene awareness in rural communities

I led the development, production and dissemination of the widely viewed ‘Freddy the Fly’ sanitation and hygiene awareness video. My work included identifying and liaising with an external production company, reviewing and providing feedback on storyboards and drafts, coordinating review processes and signoff from key stakeholders, advising on key messages, and coordinating outreach, dissemination, monitoring and evaluation activities. ‘Freddy the Fly’ was among the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council’s most viewed and liked videos.

The video has accumulated over one million total views across diverse digital platforms. The video has also been used by water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programmes to train WASH advocates and in diverse countries, communities, and schools to shape opinions, social norms, and public discourse.
