Working closely with diverse stakeholders and teams across the organization, I led, coordinated and contributed to a range of communications strategies supporting UNICEF’s organizational culture change journey, targeting 22,000-plus employees globally. This included promoting and positioning the UNICEF Core Values brand through various channels and platforms, drafting, editing and publishing a range of high-level messages, articles and knowledge products, co-developing and implementing campaigns, and revamping content on internal and external digital platforms.
UNICEF workplace culture
I worked with the Office of the Executive Director and regional and country offices to document and disseminate good practices around workplace culture and revamp organizational culture content across UNICEF’s internal and external digital platforms.
Working with UNICEF’s Organizational Culture team, I coordinated in-depth planning, participated in extensive interviews and coordinated documentation to capture and disseminate organizational culture good practices from 26 diverse country offices that performed strongly in the Global Staff Survey. This included developing conversation guides and documentation templates, liaising with country offices and the Organizational Culture team to review content, and developing production and dissemination strategies and plans. A key deliverable was successfully coordinating the drafting and design of 26 Good Practice Writeups with in-depth examples, anecdotes and photos. The writeups and associated content were prominently featured in the ‘Best Practices’ section of the Organizational Culture intranet site, shared with all staff as inspirational examples for the follow-up to the Pulse Check on Workplace Culture, and repurposed for other Organizational Culture initiatives. I also coordinated the drafting and revamping of content for the external ‘UNICEF’s Culture’ page on unicef.org and developed and advised on targeted communications strategies to effectively promote the team’s work.
I also coordinated and promoted print, digital and multimedia content championing gender equality at the workplace and disability inclusion. To support the goals of UNICEF’s Task Team on Anti-Racism and Discrimination, I provided strategic advice, developed and reviewed broadcasts, and published and promoted content in internal newsletters and platforms.
Moreover, I played a key and leading role in interdivisional communications planning and collaboration to achieve UNICEF’s desired culture change. As part of the UNICEF Cross-Divisional Working Group, I collaborated with diverse colleagues and teams across UNICEF to develop and deliver strategic communications for Ethics Month, Humans of UNICEF, the Conduct Portal, and the upcoming ‘Living Our Values’ campaign and Spectrum of Behaviours tool.
UNICEF transition, transformation, efficiency and organizational design initiatives
Working closely with staff and leaders at all levels of the organization, I played a leading communications role in several ongoing change management initiatives including the HR Transition and Transformation Initiative and Headquarters Efficiencies Initiative. This work included designing and advising on targeted communications strategies, leading the development of digital platforms for engagement and two-way communication, and drafting and editing key management messages and communications products.
